Labels made for freezer display and cold-chain handling
Frozen food packaging has a harder life than ordinary pantry packaging. A label may be applied in a production area, stored in a freezer, handled during delivery, then exposed to condensation when the customer takes it out. For frozen meals, ice cream tubs, frozen seafood, and ready-to-heat packs, the label must stay readable and attached even when the surface gets cold, damp, or lightly scuffed.
For most frozen food orders, we recommend PP White waterproof material with freezer-grade lamination and a cold-temp permanent adhesive rated for sub-zero storage. This setup is more suitable than paper-based indoor labels because PP film does not absorb moisture the same way paper does, while lamination helps protect the print from condensation, rubbing, and handling marks.
Recommended material, adhesive, and finish
Material: PP White waterproof film
For frozen food, start with PP white waterproof material. If the label will go on refrigerated or frozen products, or on hard-to-stick packaging, PP Glossy White 3 is the usual choice because it is intended for refrigerated or frozen products and maximum adhesion needs. If you want a softer, less reflective look, ask about a PP matte white option with lamination, especially for premium frozen meals or minimalist seafood packs.
Avoid Regular Satin and Hi-gloss for freezer use. They are economical indoor materials, but they are not waterproof, so condensation during thawing can affect appearance and performance. PP Clear/Transparent can be used for clear packaging and no-background designs, but white PP is usually easier to read on frosted tubs, printed pouches, and dark frozen food boxes.
Adhesive: cold-temp permanent
Freezer labels should use a cold-temp permanent adhesive rated for sub-zero storage. Standard adhesive may look fine at application but can lift later when the pack is frozen, flexed, or handled during delivery. If your pouch has texture, curves, seams, or a slightly oily surface from seafood or sauces, tell us before ordering so we can recommend the most practical setup.
Finish: matte or glossy laminate
Choose glossy laminate if you want bright colors, stronger shine, and an easy-to-wipe surface. Choose matte laminate if you want reduced glare, a softer grocery-ready look, or better readability under freezer lights. Decorative laminates such as holographic, broken glass, snow flakes, and glitter are available, but for frozen food information labels, matte or glossy is usually the safer choice because product details, batch codes, and date markings must remain easy to read.
How to size your frozen food label
Measure the actual packaging you will use, not a similar container. Frozen food packs can have seams, rounded corners, recessed panels, and flexible areas that affect how the sticker sits after freezing.
- Boxes: Measure the flat front panel where the label will be applied. Leave space away from folds, edges, and areas that may rub against other boxes during stacking.
- Pouches and ready-to-heat packs: Measure the flattest area when the pouch is filled. Avoid placing the label across gussets, heat seals, crinkles, or areas that will bend sharply.
- Ice cream tubs: Measure the straight wall height for side labels. If using a wrap label, measure the circumference and subtract a small gap so the ends do not overlap or lift.
- Seafood trays or packs: Measure the top film or sleeve area that stays flat. Avoid wet, oily, or highly textured areas whenever possible.
Also reserve clear space for required product information, barcode or QR code if any, nutrition or handling notes if you include them, and batch or expiry marking. If batch codes or expiry dates are stamped or handwritten after printing, leave a plain, readable area where the mark will not cross dark artwork or glossy patterns.
What can go wrong in freezer labels
Peeling on curves often happens when a label is too large for a curved tub or is wrapped too tightly around a small radius. A shorter wrap label with a gap, rounded corners, and the right adhesive can reduce edge lifting.
Condensation damage can make non-waterproof labels wrinkle, stain, or lose readability. Waterproof PP material and laminate help protect the print when the pack sweats during thawing.
Scuffing and fading can happen when frozen packs rub against each other in storage or delivery. Lamination adds a protective layer over the print, with glossy giving a brighter surface and matte reducing glare.
Poor adhesion from cold application may happen if labels are applied to packaging that is already frozen or wet. For better results, apply labels to clean, dry packaging and allow the adhesive to bond before freezer storage whenever your process allows.
Artwork checklist for frozen food labels
- Send artwork as PDF, PNG, or AI at 300 DPI.
- Use readable contrast for product name, variant, net content, and date information.
- Keep important text away from cut lines, corners, seams, and curved edges.
- Add clear space for lot or batch identification and date marking if these are stamped or handwritten later.
- For prepackaged food sold in the Philippines, check the current FDA Philippines requirements under Administrative Order No. 2014-0030 on labelling of prepackaged food.
- Typical label elements buyers ask about include product name, net content, ingredient list, name and address of manufacturer or distributor, lot or batch identification, and date marking such as best before or expiry.
- Confirm your final regulatory requirements with FDA Philippines or your regulatory adviser before printing.
Ordering options
Self Service ordering
You can order online without waiting for a quotation by choosing your sticker size and specs, uploading your artwork or creating it with the AI Design Generator, setting the cut and quantity, then checking out. This is useful when your size, material, and finish are already clear.
Quotation-assisted ordering
If you need guidance on freezer material, contour cut, tub wrap sizing, or multiple SKUs, create an account, request a quotation, send your artwork, approve the proof, then we print and ship. Pricing depends on size, quantity, material, and finish, so request a quotation for cost.
For design support, minor edits are free. You may also use the AI Design Generator while ordering, or ask our design team to prepare your label in Canva or Photoshop, quoted on request. Send files to hello@stickercentral.ph if you already have artwork.
