Labels made for essential oil bottles, not just generic stickers
Essential oil packaging has a different set of problems from ordinary product labels. The bottles are small, the label area is limited, and the label is often touched by oily hands after dispensing. Many products are also stored in bathrooms, vanities, spa kits, or travel pouches where humidity and rubbing can damage weak paper labels.
For 10ml dropper bottles, 30ml amber bottles, roller bottles, and wellness gift sets, we usually recommend PP White waterproof material or PP Clear/Transparent waterproof film with a permanent adhesive for glass and PET bottles. These options help the label stay neat when the bottle is handled often, exposed to light moisture, or paired with amber packaging.
Which material should you choose?
PP White for readable product labels
Choose PP White when you need strong readability for small text, batch details, scent names, directions, or caution notes. White film gives your artwork a solid background, so your label remains easy to read even on amber or tinted bottles. For most wellness brands, PP Matte White gives a soft, clean look that matches aromatherapy, massage oil, and self-care packaging.
PP Glossy White is a good option if your design uses brighter colors or you want a more polished shine. If the bottle is curved, handled often, or may face more moisture, PP Glossy White 2 or PP Matte White 2 is more suitable than basic indoor paper options because they are intended for curved containers and waterproof applications.
Transparent labels for amber bottles
Choose PP Clear/Transparent when you want the amber bottle to remain visible and your design to look like it is printed directly on the bottle. This works well for minimalist logos, botanical line art, clear scent names, and premium gift sets. The tradeoff is that transparent labels need careful artwork planning: very light colors may disappear on amber glass, and small text may need a white or darker design treatment for contrast.
Why not Regular Satin or Hi-gloss paper?
Regular Satin and Hi-gloss are economical indoor materials, but they are not waterproof. For essential oils, that is a major limitation because labels may face oil residue, bathroom humidity, and frequent finger contact. They can still be used for dry boxes, inserts, or flat indoor packaging, but for the bottle itself, PP waterproof material is the safer choice.
Finish and lamination for wellness branding
A matte laminate is a common choice for essential oil brands because it reduces glare and gives a calm wellness look. It also helps protect print from scuffing during small-bottle handling. Glossy lamination can make colors appear brighter, while specialty finishes such as holographic, broken glass, snow flakes, or glitter can be used for limited sets, seasonal blends, or gift packaging.
If your design uses a clear-label effect, keep the finish simple so the bottle and oil color remain part of the packaging look. For amber bottles, clear labels often work better with bold logo marks and fewer tiny details.
How to measure your bottle for the label
Before ordering, measure the exact container you will use, not just the bottle size printed by your supplier. Bottles from different suppliers can have different shoulder curves, bases, and label panels.
- Measure the straight wall height. This is the vertical area where the label can sit flat without touching the shoulder curve, base curve, ridges, or taper.
- Measure the wrap width. Wrap a strip of paper around the bottle, mark where it overlaps, then measure the strip. For a full wrap label, subtract a small gap so the ends do not collide or lift.
- For front-only labels, measure the flat visual panel. Decide how wide the front label should look when the bottle is facing the customer.
- Leave room for handling and dispensing. Do not place important text where fingers usually grip the roller bottle or where oil may drip near the cap.
- Check your gift set layout. If bottles sit close together in a box, make sure the label face remains visible when displayed.
What can go wrong, and how to avoid it

Artwork checklist for essential oil labels

- Prepare separate files for 10ml bottles, 30ml bottles, roller bottles, box labels, and cap stickers if they use different sizes.
- Keep scent names and variant colors consistent across the line so customers can identify blends quickly.
- Use readable font sizes for directions, cautions, batch codes, and other small details.
- For clear labels, avoid very pale text unless it has enough contrast on amber glass.
- Leave safe space away from cut lines, bottle curves, and the area where the label ends meet.
- Confirm regulatory label requirements before printing. Cosmetics sold in the Philippines follow ASEAN Cosmetic Directive labelling requirements administered by FDA Philippines, and essential oils sold for topical or aromatherapy use may be treated as cosmetics depending on classification.
