Labels made for oily, wet, and frequently handled sauce packaging
Condiment and sauce labels have a harder job than ordinary product stickers. A bottle of hot sauce may be kept in a refrigerator door, a soy-based dip may be handled with greasy fingers during food prep, and salad dressing may drip around the shoulder or side of the container. If the wrong paper label or weak finish is used, the print can scuff, the edge can lift, or the label can look worn before the product is sold.
For ketchup-style sauces, hot sauce, soy-based dips, and salad dressings, we recommend PP White or PP Matte White with oil-resistant lamination. PP film is a practical choice for wet packaging because it does not behave like regular paper when exposed to drips. The laminate adds a protective layer over the print, helping the label handle oil exposure, refrigerator moisture, and greasy handling in kitchens.
Material, adhesive, and finish recommendations
For everyday sauce bottles and jars
PP Glossy White 1 or PP Matte White 1 works well for smooth glass bottles, jars, and common indoor retail packaging. Choose glossy if your sauce label uses strong red, orange, green, or black colors that should look bright on shelf. Choose matte if your brand is going for a softer, premium, small-batch, or deli-style look.
For curved, rougher, or harder-to-stick containers
If the container has a tighter curve, a textured surface, or is often exposed to water, PP Glossy White 2 or PP Matte White 2 is the safer option. These are intended for curved containers, rough surfaces, waterproof applications, and outdoor use. For refrigerated products or hard-to-stick surfaces where stronger adhesion is needed, PP Glossy White 3 is the material to consider.
For clear bottles and no-background designs
PP Clear or Transparent can be used when you want the sauce color to show through the design. This is useful for clear bottles where you only want the logo, product name, and key text to appear printed on the bottle. Keep in mind that transparent labels may have lower contrast on dark sauces unless the artwork is planned carefully.
What to avoid for wet sauce packaging
Regular Satin and Hi-gloss are economical indoor materials, but they are not waterproof. They can still be useful for dry, flat, short-use packaging, but they are not the recommended choice for sauce bottles that may be chilled, wiped, dripped on, or handled in kitchens.
How to choose the right label size
Before ordering, measure the actual container you will use, not just the supplier’s product listing. For a wrap label, measure the straight wall height of the bottle or jar, then measure the circumference around the area where the label will sit. Subtract a small gap from the full circumference so the label ends do not overlap or fight each other on the curve.
For front-and-back labels, measure the flat or least-curved panel area. Leave space around the shoulder, neck, ribs, seams, and bottom curve of the bottle, because labels placed over these areas are more likely to wrinkle or lift. On squeeze containers, avoid placing important text on areas that will be pressed often, especially if the surface bends sharply during use.
Also plan clear areas for your barcode if you use one, batch code, and date marking. If batch codes or expiry dates will be stamped or handwritten after printing, leave a clean blank space with enough contrast so the marking remains readable.
Common sauce label problems and how to prevent them
- Peeling on curves: Use a flexible PP material and a permanent adhesive suited for glass bottles and squeeze containers. Avoid oversized labels that wrap too tightly around a small curve.
- Oil marks and greasy handling: Add oil-resistant lamination so fingerprints, kitchen oil, and light sauce smears are less likely to damage the printed surface.
- Refrigerator drips: Use waterproof PP instead of non-waterproof paper materials, especially for chilled sauces and dressings.
- Scuffing during packing or delivery: Glossy or matte lamination helps protect the print when bottles rub against each other, cartons, or dividers.
- Fading or weak shelf impact: Use high-resolution artwork at 300 DPI and choose glossy laminate when you want bolder color presentation.
Artwork checklist for condiment and sauce labels
- Send your file as PDF, PNG, or AI at 300 DPI.
- Use the exact label size you want printed and include proper bleed if your design reaches the edge.
- Keep small text readable, especially ingredients, address lines, lot or batch identification, and date marking areas.
- For prepackaged food sold in the Philippines, buyers commonly ask about product name, net content, ingredient list, name and address of manufacturer or distributor, lot or batch identification, and date marking such as best before or expiry.
- Leave a clear blank space if batch codes and expiry dates will be stamped or handwritten after printing.
- Check current food labelling requirements with FDA Philippines, including FDA Administrative Order No. 2014-0030 on labelling of prepackaged food.
Ordering your sauce labels
You can order in two ways. With Self Service, you can order online without waiting for a quotation: choose the sticker size and specs, upload your artwork or create it with the AI Design Generator, set the cut and quantity, then check out. This is useful when you already know your size, material, finish, and quantity.
If you want help choosing specs or need a quoted job, create an account, request a quotation, send your artwork, approve the proof, then we print and ship. Pricing depends on size, quantity, material, and finish, so use the Request a quotation option for cost questions. Minor edits are free, and if you need a new layout, our design team can create it in Canva or Photoshop, quoted on request.
